Spiritual Jerky: Part #1 — …God gave me somethin’ to chew on…
As a church body, we are doing, “Experiencing God.” Mr. Blackaby, Mr. King, God used you to the MAX and I am (literally) eternally grateful!
Some MAJOR points have popped off the pages into my face…slapped me a few times, stomped on my toes, stabbed a dagger in my heart, twisted, removed and then repaired it. What a journey! And, I’m only 1/2 way through. I wanted to post some of these truths that I’ve taken to heart…
Disclaimer/Warning: I earnestly pray that you discern what I have posted. Don’t believe me, but seek God to reveal these things to you in accordance to Scripture and the Spirit! These have been heart-breaking yet COMPLETELY rejuvenating for me. Some of these are bound to break your heart, but sometimes, that’s what God needs to do to draw us back to Himself. Be prepared.
- God is always working. (John 5:17)
- We may not see it, but that’s when knowing His voice is more important.
- A time of waiting is still God at work.
- Many experience God everyday, but they don’t recognize Him.
- Truths of the servant/Master analogy:
- World’s definition of a servant- “Master, what would you like me to do?” Then he goes off by himself and does it…
- Bible’s definition of a servant- Jeremiah 18:1-6 Be moldable and remain in the Potter’s hands.
- i.e. Adjust your life to Him so that He can do whatever He wants to do through you.
- from the book…”Suppose that 5 times out of 10, when the Master has something for the servant to do, the servant says, “I’m sorry. That’s not on my schedule.” What do you suppose the Master would do? The Master would dicipline the servant. If the servant did not respond, to the discipline, sooner or later the servant would find the master no longer coming to the servant with assignments.
- Also, servants don’t know the whole plan. The Master is the keeper of the house (knower of the plan). The servant is in place to carry out the tasks.
- You cannot stay the way you are and go with God.
- God has a plan then pursues a servant; NOT the other way around (You have a plan & pursue God — NOT HOW IT WORKS)
- Don’t ask for God’s blessing on your your plan/task. Seek God and join him where he’s already working.
- Understanding what God’s about to do where you are is more important than telling God what you want to do for Him.
- When God reveals something to you to do and you tell him, “God, No Way! I can’t!” He already knew you couldn’t. He wants to do it Himself through you. Exd. 3:11; 4:1
- God develops character to match the assignment He gives you. (Think Abram; Gen 12:2)
- When you accept Christ as Lord of your life, you give Him the right to help Himself to your life anytime He wants.
- EVERYTHING God says and does is an expression of love. (Deut 30:19-20; John 3:16; John 14:21; Romans 8:35,37,39; 1 John 3:16; 1 John 4:9-10,19)
- God initiates our relationship with Him. Romans 3:10-12 & John 6:44
- If you do not obey God, you do not love God. (This one hurts) John 14:23
- God’s revelation is my invitation.
- i.e. When I see the Father at work around me, that is my invitation to adjust my life to Him and join him in that work.
- “He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” John 8:47 *chew on that*
- God spoke to the prophets; Jesus spoke to his disciples; the Holy Spirit speaks to us. GOD SPEAKS TO US! STILL! John 1
- This one is hard for me…when was the last time I heard from God? What do I need to get right with God in order to hear his voice?
- God reveals his plan first to his servants. Amos 3:7
- It didn’t happen like the following:
- Moses thought, “Hmmm…I think Egypt is mistreating my people! I think I want to free them. God, I’m headed to Egypt will you come with me?” God says, “Hey a man is going to Egypt to free these people. I can use him!”
- or… Noah: “Man, I’d like to build a REALLY big boat.” God: Oh, Hey Noah! Are you building a massive boat?! I have a great idea!”
- This goes along with the whole, “Don’t ask God to bless a plan you created.” Find where God is working and join!
- It didn’t happen like the following:
- I have to make sure that my one and ONLY desire is to follow God’s will. Phil. 2:13
Yeah…that was a whole lot. I know. But it was almost necessary to write these down, so that I could look back at them, and also, see what God is teaching me. Ultimately, my epiphanies revolve around how much i need to seek and understand the characteristics of God.
I hope you connected with some of these points. If you want any more details about any point in particular, leave a comment or email me.
Now…if you’ll excuse me, I need to ask God to put my heart back together…i still have the other half of the book to do…
love,
His servant
