Oh, Hey Friday! — Shopping Extravaganza!
It’s time for, “Oh, Hey Friday!” and “5 on Friday!” I thought I would combine this wonderful occasion with my wonderful Shopping Spree Stories. This way I can post 5 of my favorite outfits and tell you a little how the shopping day went! ALSO! The girls from Luxe|Wise did a Q&A with me adding some amazing insight on style/modesty/loveliness.
So here we go…
For those of you who didn’t know this awesome news, I donated to one of our local Christian radio stations, WCIC, and was entered into a drawing. I went along my merry way and found out a few hours later that I WON! I recieved $500 PLUS 90 minutes with a personal stylist. Holy AWESOME! Here’s the initial post: Holy Boots! What do I do…
Easter weekend, I sipped coffee with the lovely Camie Risinger & Leesha Gossmeyer and we made a game plan. We finally concluded after a fair amount of caffeine, I need to work on accessorizing and inter-working pieces. PS. These two girls are super real, and love the Lord, and made this soooo easy! If you are interested in any of their services, I HIGHLY recommend them! (They also do beauty consultations & home decor)
I decided to split my $500 up…$300 at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie and $200 to Target. This way I could buy something practical at Target if I needed to, but I could still spend the bulk at Old Navy, Charming Charlies, Apricot Lane, etc.
We crossed the street to Old Navy and the festivities began…Let’s just say MIND BLOWN! We spent ALL 90 minutes at Old Navy and I got TONS of cool stuff! After they left, I accessory shopped at Charming Charlies, then headed to Target, where I finally finished with some basics and home decor. (…and maybe a box of diapers to make myself feel better)
So, here was my plunder:
Some of my favorites are the striped black & white blazer and the navy cardigan. EVERYTHING can be worn with EVERYTHING else! I still need more accessories, but this easily created about 20 new outfits with just these clothes and 50 new outfits when incorporated with what I already have! NOW, here’s my “5 on Friday!” My top 5 favorite outfits where…
ONE -hands down the most comfy
TWO
THREE – I had my jean jacket on over this and loved it even more!
FOUR – teal & red is basically one of my favorite color combos…
FIVE – my favorite…mixing patterns!!
HONORABLE MENTIONS
I am no model, but I love these clothes, because they are SO comfortable, and I feel confident! I feel so blessed by the whole experience! Way to make a busy, crazy, worn-thin mom/woman feel awesome and a sweet daughter of Jesus all over again. Mission ACCOMPLISHED! **photo creds to my darling husband
Ok, now for the Q&A…Sticking with the “5” theme, here are 5 questions I asked Camie…There are more, so I will make another attempt at a fashion post, and share those as well.
Thanks for doing this, Camie! (Please read more about these girls and their back story on their website. They have a great story!)
- In 5 words, describe your closet.
organized, multi-functional, practical, classic, enough - What are some important basics every woman should invest in?
GOOD BRAS! PLEASE don’t buy cheap bras. Your clothing will fit better, lay nicer, appear to be well tailored when you’re wearing proper undergarments! - As another Christian woman, talk to me about MODESTY. Tell me your view. And what are your tips for making some of those short skirts and low backs, etc. work.
Modesty is HUGE. Our heart is to bring ideas to the table for women that are not only physically modest, but also financially modest. You can look beautiful without baring it all. You can be stylish without breaking the bank. And modesty is so very personal in every facet of the word. A heart that is after modesty is also a heart that is extending grace and not holding others captive to their own personal convictions of what modesty is for them and their lifestyle/body type. Short skirts can work for shorter people, and an open back may be acceptable for a special occasion in a certain culture. I think the one answer that people are looking for and missing so often may be because it is not as pragmatic as they would like. However it is very black and white. The answer is Jesus. Is my heart for Him or not? Black and white. One of my dearest friends is a writer, and in one of my most favorite articles of hers she says this, “Making Jesus Lord over our minds, bodies, hearts and even closets is something that has to be intentionally pursued. But the good news is that He has been pursuing us with that vigor all along. Your devotion won’t return void.” (http://mrstullos.blogspot.com/2014/06/dont-dress- modestly.html) So as a Christian, for me it comes down to being concerned with my Savior instead of others’ approval/disapproval of me. Is He pleased by my efforts to point others to Him with my creativity and sensibility and even frugality? - For us t-shirt/jeans/flip flop girls who want to step up a game a little…what are a few key first steps?
Accessories! Something you can add to a simple tee+jeans combo is a statement necklace. This instantly dresses things up a bit. You can also switch out your Old Navy flip flops for a cute pair of sandals, or snag a pair of flip flops with a little bit of bling to tie the ensemble together! - Any final comments…things you want to say? American model and actress Lauren Hutton said,”Fashion is what you’re offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose.” Our hope is to help our sisters be confident and educated enough to make their own choices and wise enough to choose what is best for them.
Happy Friday all! The weekend will begin shortly.
