It efforts to be the cool mom and have all these awesome activities for my girls for the snow day, let me tell you what I did…
In anticipating, we made a trip to Target Saturday morning. I picked up this…
And this…
Melissa & Doug, you’ve made it to “My Heroes” list!
And I got myself this! 🙂 **Kleenex!**
So, Saturday night, I made us steak and roasted veggies and cheddar garlic biscuits. After our delicious meal, we said our farewell to Nathan at about 7pm as he headed out into the snow, and then the girls and I hunkered down for a snowy next few days.
The next morning, we busted it out…the paints first. And you know I have a SUPER witty and smart little girl, but MAN was it a fail! She got so frustrated she took the little cup of water I gave her, poured it over the colors and tried painting that way….see I told you she was smart. But then she gave up.
Then the stickers. Now these she loved! I have dinosaurs on the farm and cows in the ocean! She loves peeling them off one page and putting them on the next. She has no idea what she’s doing, but she loved it. My biggest task was making sure I didn’t throw anything away and making sure Tess didn’t get one in her mouth.
So that lasted for about …. oh…7 min.
So then, you want to know what this real mom did?
I turned on Caillou…and then when it was done, I turned it on again….and again.
Don’t worry. My girls aren’t ones to sit and stare at the TV for hours, but WE WERE BORED! We played Lions, and we drew on the chalk board, then we wiped the chalkboard off with wipes and drew again. We looked out windows at the snow. We also got a fish…another blog to come. So that was entertaining for about 5 minutes every few hours. We were struggling. (I also know it’s important for your kids to learn to entertain themselves, but come on now! We were pushing 72 hours!)
Nathan finally came home Monday afternoon, and in efforts to be quiet so he could sleep, we decided to go outside and play.
Um…Ruthie did not like the snow. So that didn’t work either. Every time snow got on her boot, she had to stop and wipe it off. Please notice in the above picture, we were walking in snow. Lots of stopping and wiping. So you know what we did?
We turned on Caillou. Yup. I’m the cool mom. (NOT) **That creepy bald kid saved my life this weekend.**
In all seriousness, as most Central Illinoisans were cursing the snow, we were praising the Good Sweet Lord! And now, with the 2ish inches we got today, it’s another late one for Nathan, but God is the great provider and is definitely providing in times of need. AND Ruthie has found her new favorite thing…Calling her Daddy and telling him what she’s doing! SOO CUTE.
Maybe Tess will be our snow bunny!
