So how’s your New Years Rez (Resolution) going? This week for Oh, Hey Friday!, I’m posting how I’m keeping up with mine.
5 on Friday | O, Hey Friday! | Friday Favorites
Yes, health & weight loss is the most common of all the resolutions, and Lord knows my favorite thing is following the mainstream *enter angry red faced emoji* but here is why I chose this: Since June, when we took over the store, I have gained 20 lbs. There’s a Casey’s RIGHT across the street that we visit regularly for breakfast pizza, pizza, chicken bites, chips, soda, _____fill in any other unhealthy snack food here. If I forgot something for lunch, I wasn’t too worried because I would just walk across the street. Also, with Nathan working the afternoon shifts, I was waiting for him for dinner and sometimes that wouldn’t be until 8pm. No good. And when I did cook dinner, it was something fast; frozen pizza, chili, something with pasta, corn dogs…It is UNREAL how much pizza we have consumed in the last 6 months.
ENTER New Years Resolution: Eat Clean! :: No refined sugars. REASON: To put thought into what I’m eating. Hopefully to lose extra lumps (I’m ok with my *keep me warm fat!*)
ONE | PROS:
- I LOVE TO COOK! I’ve made lots of new things that are just crazy good…well and bad….but the experimenting is awesome!
- My girls are eating better, because there is better food around!
- My energy level is up.
- Growing success is contagious, which is rubbing off on a few other of my goals.
TWO | CONS:
- I’m not a huge water person. I’m really only drinking water & tea.
- NO COFFEE. I have to get my caffeine from black tea. Yes, I could drink black coffee, but then I’d want to put cream in it, which is vanilla creamer…with sugar.
- Grocery runs are expensive & time consuming to start because I’m reading labels & buying LOTS of produce.
- I can’t really drink any spirited beverages. I can have wine, but I’m really not all about sipping a glass.
THREE | THE FOOD
My favorites so far…
Baked Sweet Potato topped with baked chicken, black beans, onions, tomatoes, avocado, shredded cheese, & a dollop of sour cream.
Apple Walnut Salad with cranberries & feta cheese with homemade honey mustard vinaigrette.
Apples & Smooth Operator Peanut Butter (it’s got raw cane sugar in it…i’m considering it ok for now)
Others….
Wheat English Muffin with avocado & apples with peanut butter
FOUR | THE GIRLS
Ruthie got in trouble yesterday for eating two apples. 🙂 Tessa has been adventurous and trying some of the food. She also LOVES helping me cook! So, I try to find jobs for her that are kid friendly. She washes LOTS of grapes.
They had pizza & berries at HyVee. This is one of their favorite things to do.
While they had their greasy pizza, I had this tasty salad. Hardest part…Tessa left half her pizza on her plate, and I couldn’t eat it. In my head I was thinking, “I don’t want that $ to go to waste.” But really what I was thinking was…..mmmmmm….”Greasy pizza….”
FIVE | THE WEIGHT
I try not to get my hopes up with the loss the first week, because naturally when you drastically cut carbs & cut calorie intake, then you’re going to lose weight.
These first 5 days, I’ve lost 5lbs. SWEET! Now, I just need to find time to exercise.
So far, it’s a success. I plan to do this the whole year. I can hear some people say, but this is sooo drastic, you are setting yourself up to fail. My first response… about 6 years ago, I gave up meat for 1 year. And I did it. I HAVE to do something drastic, because if it’s something small that takes just a little bit of effort, then I will brush it off. I must make it big so I have to constantly think about it. AND I have to tell the world! That way when I slack, someone will ask me, “Hey! How’s your NO SUGAR thing going?” I will feel like a failure when I say, “Not good.” Not for everyone, but I respond best to public humiliation. People pleaser, ya know!?
What was your New Years Resolution? Be careful! Whatever you comment, I will ask you about later. 🙂 Accountability at it’s finest!
HAPPY FREAKIN’ FRIDAY!
